How We Create Value
Battery storage generates value through multiple revenue pools — continuously optimised based on local conditions and changing market dynamics.
Two Ways to Create Value
New Revenue Streams
Ancillary services (FCR-N, FCR-D, FFR, aFRR, mFRR)
Energy arbitrage via day-ahead and intraday markets
Trading revenues through direct Nord Pool membership
Capacity market participation
Balancing service provider (BSP) revenues
Reduced Costs
Peak shaving to reduce grid subscription and demand charges
UPS and backup power replacing traditional infrastructure
Reactive power compensation and voltage support
Lower energy procurement costs through smart charging
Reduced dependence on fossil fuel backup generation
Ancillary Services — The Backbone of Value
Ancillary services have historically provided the highest returns for BESS. Direct BSP (Balancing Service Provider) relationship with Svenska Kraftnät enables participation across the full product suite: FCR-N, FCR-D, FFR, aFRR, and mFRR. We expect ancillary services to remain the primary value driver for the foreseeable future.

Energy Arbitrage — Growing Opportunity
Energy arbitrage has historically been less attractive in Sweden due to the dominance of ancillary service revenues. However, as renewable energy penetration increases and market volatility grows, the arbitrage opportunity is becoming increasingly viable.
VIM Energy Systems holds direct Nord Pool membership for day-ahead and intraday trading. This allows us to execute optimal charge and discharge schedules that capture price spreads across the day, maximising revenue from our customers' assets.

Emerging Applications
Still very much in their infancy, emerging applications represent the next frontier of value creation — both behind and in front of the meter. Grid deferral, local flexibility markets, congestion relief, and co-located renewable integration are among the most promising. We actively monitor and develop these revenue streams for our customers.
Grid Deferral
Defer costly grid infrastructure upgrades by deploying BESS to manage peak loads at critical grid points.
Local Flexibility
Participate in emerging local flexibility markets operated by distribution system operators across Sweden and Europe.
Renewable Integration
Co-located storage maximises yield from solar and wind assets — capturing curtailed energy and smoothing generation profiles.
